This is just an FYI post for future searchers who want to know an optional place where you can wire up Longacre SMi gauges.

My car is a '99.

The water temp gauge and the oil pressure gauge have electrical sending units, but also have wires for unswitched power, switched power, and ground.

Apparently, the most common place to get power is from the radio harness. My radio and all its harness is in a landfill somewhere, so I had to look elsewhere.

I found switched power (power on when ignition is on) from the cigarette lighter harness. It's just two wires, a black one and a yellow one. The yellow wire has 12 volt power.

Unswitched power (always has power, even when ignition is off) is available at the hazard light button. There are six or seven wires to this button. On my car, the brown wire with a (?) stripe had 12 volt power.

I just cut those wires and spliced the gauge wires into them.

The ground wire I just screwed to some bare metal under the dash around where the radio used to be.

Whadayaknow, it worked!

Hope this can help someone.

Jim
