Higher flow fuel pump, worth it if normally aspirated?

Somewhat of a noob here.

 

If I am not using forced induction, is it still worth it to run a higher flow fuel pump. Regardless if I do or not, is a high performance fuel regulator a good idea?

If you are racing in SM then only an OEM or OEM equivalent fuel pump is permitted.

 

Many people believe a fuel pressure regulator is of benefit, particularly on NB cars. (Not sure what a "high performance" regulator is)

In NB applications it is not worth buying the higher flow fuel pumps.  Without the ability to use the fuel ie better air flow through the engine there is no need for additional fuel.  In the NBs the pumps will burn out if used with the fuel pressure regulators as they overheat trying to push so much restricted volume.

In my '95, I get better HP and Tq with lower pressure than stock so the adjustable regulator is a good thing, and the stock pump works just fine.  That's with a restrictor plate though.  I've never measured AFM without the RP.

If you're not going to dyno or measure AFM though, I'm not sure you'd find much benefit to an adjustable FPR.  Running too lean is certainly not healthy for your motor.

While is is fair to say that this site is heavily biased to SM, it is not true that it excludes other classes where Mazda cars race.  You just posted in a SM specific portion of the site.  Here is a link to the non SM forums:

I'm not trying to make it frustrating.

Tom is also correct.

But more will reply from a SM point of view and I was pointing out you were not in SM to be clear.

Also the FPR is an improvement when tuned. (on a dyno) Not saying you're not.

Otherwise you could be running lean and blow up or rich which defeats the point of getting it.
