We shave these as well, ask anyone at the NASA champs.

Also, Hoosier would need to sell off all old tires, but were willing, so it would like be a 6-12 month transition.

Ron, About shaving...I don't think I'm taking this out of context ^^

Mr Webb...I will point out that Mr Cresci did say he ran the same times on old tires as new...kind of a relevant point dont you think?

And to Mark D. credit, he is running Toyos until at least 1 has no lines or his help yells at him! And many are following suit in the West! Not a significant drop at any of our tracks.

IMO the only reason you can run same time on old worn out tires as fresh ones is the fresh ones arent shaved.  If everyone is running old tires then run old tires, but in any deep field tires can make a huge difference even .2 per lap for 15 laps in enormous.

to adress your statement Johhny, supposedly Mid Ohio like old tires yet the last Nasa nats held there was won on new tires!  last october the swing between 18+ hc and new tires was 1second, while I ran up front with the old ones there was no freakin way I was gona be there for the win on those tires, my best finish was p4 at around 15hc and there was no way I was gonna even sniff the win on those tires!

I have seen one set of shaved hoosiers ever, they were absolutly slower on track that day and the tires were then abandoned in favor or full tread!

Hoosier has given us over and above service at the track and more they are reachable by a simple phone call and are always helpful!  Never seen a Toyo employee even once, you want a tire call your favorite tire dealer...

Changing tires to a 195 favors the very pointy end guys, they wil figure the new tire out faster and it will widen  the gap to the mid pack.  They also have the means by which to test the tire and know it before they even transition to it, while the mid pack guy will figure it out maybe by end of season only  starting on day one of him running out of the Old tire!

We are going through hubs wearing them out because the new hubs are JUNK! it has nothing to do with tires!  I have not changed a hub on my car this year!!!!  But I dont run the Junk hubs :)

Its the same tire compound, sidewall construction etc.  In theory all chages favor the pointy end guys more than others simply becuase they are executing at a higher level.  I don't think it's that big of a deal going down to a 195 for anyone as long as it's the same compound etc.  The tires will certainly need to be managed more throughout the race, but that's racing.  Should we start instituing trophies for entering so as not to offend anyone not at the front?

If this were ever to happen there would need to be a significant transition period, so by the time it were implemented for its first race everyone would have had plenty of time to test or try out the new tire on multiple tracks.

While the new hubs may be worse than years past, I don't think it is fair to pin all of that on the failures.  I believe that the engineers on this forum would not agree that tire width and contact patch have nothing to do with hub failure.  More mechanical grip equals more load on the hubs which means less life.  These street car hubs were never intended to handle the loads and forces we are subjecting them to for any significant length of time.  Agree that the quality seems to have gone down in recent years and it has certainly had an impact, but I just think there is a little more to it.  Many people who are re-greasing their hubs often do not get the seal put back in properly which also has an impact.

Just a FYI both clubs have multi year contracts that renew different years.

And different regions have different support from both MFGs.

Toyo Tires® Returns as Official Tire of NASA through 2020

Napa Valley, CA – The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is pleased to announce that Toyo Tires® will return next season as the Official Tire of NASA. The recently signed agreement names Toyo Tires the Official Tire of NASA through the 2020 season and also ensures NASA competitors will benefit from the industry leading contingency program pioneered in NASA during this next 5-year term. Toyo Tires has been the Official Tire of NASA since 2002, a 13-year tradition of supporting NASA Competitors and their teams with its Proxes® line of competition tires.

The Toyo Proxes® RR two-groove DOT competition tire is the spec tire for several classes in NASA, including: Spec Miata, Spec Iron, Honda Challenge, Spec E30, the recently added Spec E46, and the revolutionary new NASA Prototype (NP01). The NP01 represents the pinnacle of the NASA Pro Racing classes; featuring identical 2-liter Mazda powered prototype race cars which weigh in at only 1,450 lbs. Toyo Tires has also added the successful Spec Z class for Nissan 350Zs to the list of spec classes.

As a part of the contract renewal, Toyo Tires continues its support as presenting sponsor for the NASA Championships -- both the Western States Championships, and the Eastern States Championships. The company also supports the 25-Hours of Thunderhillâ„¢, the longest endurance road race in North America, with its fully stocked hospitality rig which provides complimentary tire mounting and balancing services and catered meals to competitors using Toyo tires.

"NASA and Toyo Tires have enjoyed an illustrious and lasting relationship together and we couldn't be more thrilled to extend that relationship for another five years," said Jeremy Croiset, NASA Director of Business Development. "NASA members have benefited greatly from the fantastic partnership program through millions of dollars in contingency offers paid out and the creation of the best Spec Tire the industry has seen in over two decades. We look forward to a bright future together with Toyo Tires."

“Toyo Tires is proud of our longtime partnership with the National Auto Sport Association,” said Marc Sanzenbacher, senior manager, Motorsports, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “At Toyo Tires grassroots motorsports is a key part of our DNA, and NASA racing provides an opportunity to showcase the performance of our Proxes tires on a broad variety of road racing cars. It also provides a test bed to further develop and improve upon our technology.”

That is a track dependent question. Mid O is not the norm. but at the O bald skin RR's are the fastest. a full tread RR is about a second or more off the pace and at our track you can grain them easy so IMO the Hoosier's harder compound is a better buy as it does not grain and is race ready as a sticker. RR's have to be shaved or you have to put lots of laps on them before you can race them hard with out graining. Would rather have the Hoosier.

Frank the shaving aspect of RR's is track specific also.

Agree 100% going to other tracks some like fresh stickers. At those tracks that i have raced they do not have a graining problem either.
