I am setting the ride height on my 99. Looking at the wording in JD's manual it says to measure the ride height to 4 5/8 from the Pinch welds at all four corners ... at the rocker panel. My question when you look at my attached pictures this is the left front at the jack point the red tape is the exact location on the pinch weld were you are supposed to use the jack.
What is the right spot as you can see i can get a different measurement depending on where you take the measurement.
Is the pinch weld he is discussing the entire bottom or is he discussing the "pinch weld" as the little indented spot that I have my ruler under?
I am looking to set it at 4 1/2 but it looks like right now I am 4 3/8?
any thoughts?[attachment=506:Garage fun 061 (Medium).jpg]

As you can see from the last picture the measurement will change significantly depending on where you measure.

The most importatant thing is to get the car level first so choose an undamaged point on the pinch weld and use the same spot on each side of the car. If you are measuring at the same spot on each side you should be OK. Don't forget to put your body weight in the drivers seat and disconnect sway bars before measuring.

I'm certainly not the setup guru, but since I do my own car, I will chip in here. I wouldn't measure from where you jack up the car, since (surprisingly) that will change after jacking up a few hundred times! I marked a spot to the front of the front jackpoint about an inch, and to the rear of the rear jackpoint...and as long as those don't get boogered up (technical term) then you will be set. Don't forget that this is ONLY a baseline. I assure you that it will change.

ok Got it
the are was supposed to be set at 4 1/2 last year. its lower now and while I like low its less than 4 3/8 so I think I will pick my points and raise it a tick.

Ticks and boogers. I love precise measuring standards. At least you aren't using the c.h. measurements.
