Ok one of the benefits of being a member of Mazda Racers is you get it here first.

Registration for the Mid Ohio Major has not yet been announced but the link is active. We are expecting to sell out our class so if you want to go i would register. You do not have to pay at the time of registration.

I will post more information as we get a bit closer but the link to register is

https://www.motorspo...80#.VuBjouaSIrg

I am told there will be an all day test and tune sponsored by Mid Ohio and a twilight test and tune. from 5pm to 8pm Thursday night.

I will post links when they are available.

They have 24 GTL cars in that group.  I think that may be every GTL car currently running.      ;-)

Those guys do a really good job motivating their class to participate.

GTL is a great way to spend money to go slow.

I actually thinks it's a very cool class.

Up to 44 entries now. I know that a lot of cars on the list are yet to be completed or even purchased.

Frank, just asking out of curiosity, what's the policy for oversubscribed groups. There's 86 entries in group 6 - that won't work at Mid Ohio will it?

The policy, I am not sure other than to say, I know they can ask to extend the max number allowed by a few cars. I think the limit is 65 cars approximately.

I understand they are going to change the groups based upon who signed up at this point.

This is one of the reasons they could not pull this off in two days. They will adjust the schedule to try and accommodate who has signed up.

We ran a combined class  race with Grand Am a few years back with 67 cars on track. It was actually a hoot. I passed cars in places i never thought was possible and there was little contact, but several close calls.

I don't think the 1.6 cars have big enough brakes, considering how fast they'll be going by the time they get to the turn 7 braking zone....

I did see that Jesse Prather (former prod NC) is signed up this year at Hallet,Gateway and Mid Ohio in a 1.6 so I think someone might feel it has a good chance...  I think the car should be VERY good at Hallett and Mid Ohio where weight is a premium. Not even sure what the 1.6 weighs now? Mine is 2440 so I think it is like 155-165 lbs heavier? that is a TON of weight at those tracks.  Might get interesting.

I hate to even comment here, but the 1.6 has a 150 lb wt swing on the VVT, I think the twitchy effect of the 1.6 suspension, if you know how to use it, is an advantage at Mid O, and other tracks like it. I have said all along the 1.6, if well driven at this track will compete. I am sure we will be discussing this further. I am psychic.

Twitchy, as I define it, is never an advantage. Fair to say that lower weight makes it more "agile" or "tossable" (along with other benefits of being lighter) which may in some cases more than offset the negative aspects of increased bump-steer and other geometry issues, but I don't see how those are ever a plus.
