I plan to prep a recently acquired 2001 Miata for HPDE. The car will also be used on the street. I wish to replace the shocks and am planning on installing the Bilsteins from the SM kit. Is it Ok to use these shocks with the OEM springs? I don't know the lbs/in for the OEM springs and how much they differ from the springs in the SM suspension kit. Should I use other shocks if I leave the springs OEM?

The billstein shocks that come in sm kit came as OE in 94/97 cars with the M package. They were run with stock springs. You will be fine.

Great - thanks for the quick answer!
It's very beneficial for newcomers, like me, to be able to obtain answers from people with experience. I look forward to learning proper Miata handling and maybe racing at some point. This is going to be great fun.

One correction, the SM shocks are from an NA car. they will not work on an NB without using the modified shock rubbers or the FC bushing kit. They are NOT a drop in replacement on an NB.
