Has anyone used the round cool shirt cooler?

How did work for you? Any idea how it compares performance wise to the rectangular one?

Thanks!

I have never tried it but it doesn't look like it holds enough ice.

I made mine from a 2.5 gallon igloo cooler that I bought in 1982.  It looks ugly, but works great.  There is still plenty of ice left after a 30 minute race.  It should be good for at least 45 minutes and most likely an hour.  That is in >90 degF weather.  The cool shirt round cooler is 10 qts which if my math is correct is 2.5 gallons.

Why might one shape would work better than the other?

Why might one shape would work better than the other?

2 main reasons that I can think of:

1.  Less surface area for the volume contained => lower heat flux into the cooler, thus less wasted heat capacity.  Ie, the ice doesn't melt as fast, so you can use less ice for the same session length.

2.  Less cooler mass (due to #1 above) => less parasitic weight per pound of ice water.

Overall...its lighter.  That's either good or bad.  if you are "using" your coolsuit to move "ballast" around the car...then its less to work with and therefore maybe bad.  if you are trying to make weight, then its probably good.
