Left is better if you have a helper (i.e. enduros). But if you have someone to talk to, you have a helper by default
Right is easier by yourself.
My experience is to buy a new microphone. It can be swapped, but all too often the little thin wires get damaged and you have problems later on. Usually when you really need them.
I do not sell radio stuff, so I am not biased on this response
