What's the status of using the aftermarket NA R-package front lip?  Since they're no longer being made (from Mazda) I know there is an enterprising company making them out of PP (polypropylene) instead of PS (polystyrene) for a reasonable price and it doesn't look to be any different from what the factory one does.

Any insight into their use/legality/protests upheld?

SCCA Rule:

"The R package chin spoiler is allowed on 90-97 cars provided it is mounted in the OEM location."  The 99 and up cars are listed by part number. Mazda has none.

Presume OEM chin spoiler ^ which Mazda Motor Sports no longer has for any of the Spec Miata spec line cars.

Here is an R package style and not OEM. Picture looks similar with all mounting points.

Maybe this is a rule that requires clarification because Mazda no longer has parts.  Been there before when the RX7 part supply went to zip, no got, there ain't no more OEM parts.

Sounds like the SMAC needs to recommend to the CRB that a rule be written to allow use of aftermarket chin spoilers on NA cars provided they attach at (and only at) the factory mounting locations, are of identical dimensions to the factory piece, and serve no other purpose than to be a pain in Brandon's ass which some weenie would protest if the rule wasn't altered. :P

And if someone was protested because they put their parts thru the REM process, would you call that a weenie protest?

Back to the double radiator fan squabble. The word may is used within the rule which is described within the GCR as a permissible word. Permissible is a liberal word which to me means, remove some or all the AC bits.

Bought mine from that vendor on Miata.net a few years ago.  Works well.  Fits OK on my 26 year old bumper.  Not perfect but OK.

I really don't care if folks use an aftermarket spoiler as long as it does not perform a prohibited function, brake cooling, down force and whatever.

Wheel, I do like the clarity of the words, drive train and power train. Great job to those involved.

Johnny, your part of the solution correct.

Jim, for those of us who use the brakes, would you believe the spoiler holes directs air to the backing plate scoop more so than with no spoiler?

Jim, I just let one go from my personal stash for a friend's NA. In our opinion they perform an important function.............They make the car look a little less dorky and give it some pseudo toughness!!

They definitely make the car look better.  Who cares if they go any faster!  Fighter pilot mantras:

1. Look good and sound better

2. Rather be lucky than good, anyday!

3. Never get in a fair fight

4. Never let the truth get in the way of a perfectly good story.  "before I put on my chin spoiler, I was lucky to do 2:41 at Sebring, now I'm in the 38's..."

Aftermarket should be allowed for both NA and NB cars, provided they use the same mounting, have the same dimensions and perform the same function as the OEM chin spoiler.

Pretty much identical to OEM

In a world where paint on a heat sheild is non compliant... 'pretty much' is non compliant :( I think I could very easily argue this spoiler is more of a performace advantage than a painted heat shield.

:) I'm not inclined to make it an unqualified identical because someone would find a meaningless difference, but it is unlikely that anyone looking at them even closely would suspect that they were from different suppliers.
