I have no words for this one:
As a rookie I had one of the experienced veterans come over to me after I tried to enter the track in a perpendicular fashion and explain to me how unsafe it was. You are off, take your medicine and enter the track parallel, preferably where you can see oncoming traffic.
I watched it when it aired. A lap or 2 earlier he leaves the door wide open in 2 and then chops off a black car. No situational awareness
Understand in the video he's going backwards, on to oncoming traffic, out of the sand trap to get to the most dangerous spot to pull out.
Nice job.
Only thing I can think of is that he was dehydrated and then has a reason (not an excuse) for being a bonehead.

you can see in the last shot he was saying "the flags were out" as if somebody should be expecting him to pull out into the racing line.
