My 99 I'm building came with factory mud flaps. I can't find in the rules if I can leave these on. I imagine they are ok to leave on as I would assume the weight/drag would pose no advantage, but I'm inclined to leave them on to save paint wear/clean up.
What has everyone else done? I've seen NASA/SCCA cars both with them on and without.

Can't say for sure in SSM. But in Sm they must be removed to be 100% legal

Exactly. It's a letter vs intent, shall vs may thing. I encourage the competition to retain any parts that slow them down.

Under "body" in GCR
Rear spoilers and rocker panel moldings including OEM designare prohibited.The intent of this rule was to require the entire side body trim to be removed. And since I wrote the rule, I know the intent was to include the rear mud flaps as well. This requires removal.Also in the GCR a couple paragraphs laterf. Body side moldings and wheel opening trim pieces may beremoved.Small stretch to call the mud flaps wheel opening trim, but I can live with that. This allows removal.
Ahh. I was looking at the NASA rules which do not make mention of either the rear spoiler or the rocker panel moldings. I agree with your interpretation and wording, and since I want my car to be compliant across both organizations, I will remove them.
