I don't know if there are any East Street engines here on the West coast / California area but this 1.6 will be roaring to life very soon! Who knew that East Street still built 1.6 engines.
After various delays due to life happening, we finally had some time to install this gem in my friend / team mate / competitor's car yesterday.
As you can tell by the fact that the engine bay is red and the quantity of stickers on the car, the car is fast! It will be even faster now with this engine. Hopefully, it doesn't make too much power as it is supposed to run Sealed SM.
I was really hoping the engine would be running by the end of the day but us amateurs spent too much time getting the motor mounts installed and looking up torque specs and other time wasting tasks. I haven't done an engine install in 2 or 3 years so very, very rusty... Still need to connect the wiring and ancillaries, install the diff and cooling system etc. It should be running in another week or so and then Greg can break the engine in.
Poor guy also had to do his tranny (3rd gear synchro) and replaced his MazdaComp diff with a Torsen. Anyone looking for a used MazdaComp LSD that needs maintenance?
It was a fun day wrenching with good friends. It is rather amusing to think that we were wrenching on our competitor's car. Before I started racing SM, I always thought that competitors didn't help each other out. It's amusing watching other new racers come in with that mind set and then realize how wrong it is and how helpful your fellow competitors are. Saw this at the track last race. Almost had to go hunt for parts for the guy myself as he was afraid to ask.
Anyway, figured I'd share the fun
