Not a peep of news from SCCA.com. Sad. Hold out for a mention in the Magazine.

Pretty sure the only thing getting coverage this year will be the Super Tours.
There was an interesting statement by the chief stew before awards on Sunday... She mentioned that someones SM had been tampered with in some way that created an unsafe situation for that driver, and obviously all that share the track with them. No details were shared. Disappointing to hear.

Likely because start of the season, and no Super Tour that weekend.

From the SCCA site...

"We found out this weekend at California Speedway that the Majors have been downgraded to The Regional level. No coverage on the SCCA web and regional drivers one hitting the Joe Huffaker Mini. The trophys were a joke and the feedback was SCCA was trying to get more cars at the Runoffs and The Super Tour was the premier program. Great for the east coast guys but to run the Super Tour on the West Coast Conference requires double the tracer vs east coast guts. Probably the last season for me"
Looking him up, he ran at 3 Majors, Runoffs test Day and Runoffs last year.
I guess the upside is he's not a SM guy.
Just sayin.

I don't think there was ever any doubt the Super Tour would be the flagship program in 2017. Its pretty easy to do the Super Tour in the Western Conference (if you are in the southern half) because Cal Club has two events, and the NW has one. I had no issues with the event, but I did not go in there expecting it to be like a Super Tour.

Ya, It said Restricted, was it not a Major and do you know why they dropped it from a Major ?
I just feel bad. He's ^^ from SFR and Ran Portland, Pacific and Willows and then out to Mid O, seemed like the perfect guy to run SCCA. Just got pissed off this time.

It was a Majors. Regions are in control of Majors, and can modify them to best suit their market. In this case a Restricted Regional was added - which simply meant one run group was for Regional cars (IT, ect) only - the rest of the event was still a Majors. Its like they turned the clock back, and a Majors is what a National was.
I know Tom and have no idea what he is venting about. If you went out for the test day or practice the groups were combined, but not for qual or races. His "Regional driver" comment does not carry much weight when 90% of the IT cars can change the sticker on door and all of a sudden are a National ST or Prod car, which is just as capable of poor driving.
