FWIW.... I race as much as anyone or more. My car has all of 16 and a few race weekends already in 2017.. I made all of 2016 0n ne pair of hubs, zero replacemnets.  I changed my first and oly one hub at Sebring in January.  They started as 60 k USED hubs, we blueprinted and installed and torqued TO THE SPEC, not less.

The new hubs are a option. You can still run the OE hubs. If you can't justify the price of the new hubs you are not forced by the rules to have to upgrade. You have a choice.

I think I will look at it like this...we used to run a less expensive brake pad that had incredible bit put if you used more than 2 toes the flat spotted tires added up! We went to pads that cost 30% more but saved us at least one set of ruined tires per year...you do the math!

I too like Jim have had good luck with repacked OEM hubs,,,without even changing the ball bearings. But give me something that may be able to repack in 10 minutes, more metal than OEM(flange breaking)and pretty bullet proof...I will spend the money! And if they last twice as long as the other option at least you're even!

The bearing going bad is one thing, but the flange failing is a whole different thing. A failure that more than likely will cost more to repair than the price of the new hubs. Interested to see if the flange is a more robust part. I've got 2 spare sets of rebuilt/packed hubs in the track box, so I'm good unless the new flanges are super-duper.

What does it mean that you " blueprinted" it Jim? Just that you tolerance matched the ball bearings in the rebuild?

The flanges have much more material and the radius at the root is much larger. Also made out of a much higher grade steel.
