I recently posted about the 1100 mile road trip my son and I will be taking next Saturday - Atlanta to Minneapolis.  This "new to us" 91 Miata has the tire carrier that mounts to a hitch receiver.  It is really a slick set up, except that when you have track tires on the carrier (as we will) you can hardly see the tail lights and the license plate is completely covered up.

The car has a hard top so I think I will put the temporary registration on the rear window - that will cover the license plate issue (hopefully).   I was thinking of maybe installing a trailer lighting harness so I can attach trailer lights that are more visible.  I really don't want to get rear ended nor do I want to get pulled over for the tail lights being obstructed. We are trying to make the trip in 1 day which we should be able to do if we are not getting pulled over by state troopers for issues like this.

Any constructive input would be greatly appreciated!

One wheel in the trunk...or buy a set of cheap tow lights!

I am intersted in the tire carrier.  can you send or post photos or a link to what you used?

I drive my SM to the track, and would like to not need to load 3 tires in the trunk and one on the passenger side of the car, or to use a trailer!
