In the process of building up a personal car for SM and figured I would ask what the consensus is on power plant frame wiring harness. I've seen some leave it alone and some pass it through to the inside of the car. Is passing it through to the inside legal? If so, how does one go about reconnecting everything properly?

I relocate the battery cable to the interior as part of the master switch install. The small wires need to be hooked up, so i leave them under the car, but secure them to the brake/fuel lines rather than the PPF. This makes any job requiring removal of the PPF (trans, clutch, diff) easier. Depending upon year of the car, you may need to extend some of the wires.
That wire loom is usually pretty nasty, so clean it up while you are at it.

I leave mine stock as well.
I think there are pros and cons to both methods.. I dont have many transmission failures ( one personally in 12 full seasons) so I leave it alone. We have one guy on our team that shall remain nameless that we change lots of transmissions. I think his new car the harness will be rerouted

Anyone know what gauge the stock positive battery cable is? I've been trying to search for it but have found conflicting results.

Two things make trans swaps much easier. Rerought the wires and a flex clutch line. It's almost a gaurentee at some point you are going to have to do a trans swap. As Jim stated some more than others. I had one customer that was every weekend.
We are also changing our down pipe studs from the factory steel units to ARP Stainless steel studs and nuts. Stronger and never rust.
