We should all aspire to be like Rosemary Smith when we grow up.
This is a publicity stunt by Renault's F1 team, and while we usually ignore these sorts of videos, this one is too good to pass up. Renault invited 79-year old Irish rally driver Rosemary Smith to test its newest F1 car, and she proves to be an incredible inspiration. We should all aspire to be like Smith when we grow up.
Smith was actually working as a seamstress when one of her customers asked her to be a co-driver in a rally. Pretty soon, she was hooked on the sport and began driving in rallies all over the world for a number of years. Around 20 years ago, she opened up a driving school as well.
Renault brought Smith to France's Paul Ricard circuit, and team driver Joylon Palmer was there to help her get to grips with the car. Even with racing experience, Smith was intimidated by the Renault, and who wouldn't be? Modern F1 cars are unlike anything else in the world. Everything seems to work out for Smith once she's behind the wheel, and we get a happy montage of her on the track.
Even though this video is obviously contrived, we can't help but feel inspired by Smith. She has a "why not?" attitude that we should all seek to emulate.
