Given the other thread, I'm interested in opinions -- mostly for the benefit of the guy that did it to me last weekend

I think you need one more catagory...as was mentioned in the other thread..."no punt, but a little face to fist discussion after "
Not a fan of punting for any reason, then again I'm not out there in the heat of the moment, so I'll defer to you drivers. Not a fan of unnecessary money and time spent to fix a car that wasn't an "accident"

No more Mister Nice Guy. Had a guy brake check me for several laps last year every time I got a run, and I let him. Not this year Johnny!

Yeah my choices were a bit limited.
Here's my plan for the next time someone is "bold" enough to try that in front of me. the first time welcomes getting even closer the next time, close enough to where there's not enough time to react if it happens again. Problem solved.

Had a NER SM do this to me last year at the exit of T3 at Summit during last November's EMRA event of all things. He didn't like that I was "too close" on the exit, and checked up on me.
Oh no, I don't think so.
I've known this guy a long time, and thought him smarter than that. In the conversation afterwards I learned that he apparently doesn't like to bump draft, and so does this to keep people from doing so. He thought that was what I was going to do to him. He'd never heard of waving somebody off, apparently. Lesson learned. However, thanks to the skills acquired from racing in the talent pool that is MARRS, I never saw him anyplace but in my rearview mirror again the rest of the day.

Cy, I thought you liked bump drafting?
Not when the help is coming at my quarterpanel from the side. We had a real bad wreck at Lime Rock last year when some idiot thought it would be cool to bump draft in the downhill. He nailed the car in front twice, who ended going airborne once off the track surface, flipping end over end and fortunately landed on what was left of its wheels.
On the brake check topic, I was almost collected last year when one of my buddies brake checked the car between us. I was #3 in line and almost took out the brake checkee in front of me. Don't do it, as innocents usually get the short end of the stick. If you just have to tell that driver behind you that you're not happy, try a lift (or rude jesture out the window) instead and hope that you don't get punted off the track.

Bruce:
My take is that folks who brake check are often in the same league as those who block. While I will not purposefully punt either miscreant, I have low regard for either tactic.
If someone is genuinely endangering you with thier driving, do what you must, but getting too close on exit does not qualify as dangerous. That's called momentum racing and it's how most SM passes occur.
If you are being dive bombed, perhaps that's another matter, but even then, I fear 90% of brake checkers are either being unsportsmanlike or unresonably timid. In the case of the latter, perhaps they need to look less in the mirror and more out the windshield. In the case of the former, perhaps they need punting.
Let the flames begin.

The matter has been resolved. Didn't want to call anyone out, so it was handled the optimal way, via long phone conversation and well wishes for close racing again in the future. Thanks for all the replies!

Roger, roger. We've got pucker factor five-by-five on this one.
I repeat, pucker factor 5x5.
