Contingency and other benefits await Mazda racers at the NASA Western and Eastern States Championships
Fall is fast approaching, and that means championship events are upon us – like the National Auto Sport Association’s Eastern and Western Championships. The Western States Championships will be held at Thunderhill Raceway on Oct. 5-8, with the Eastern Championships taking place at Sebring International Raceway on Oct. 19-20.
Mazda Motorsports continues its support of NASA racers with a strong contingency program. Up to $6,600 per class (except Time Trial, PFM, FM and F2.0) is up for grabs in contingency money. $3,500 will go to the winner, down to $350 for fifth-place Mazda finishers. Payouts are contingent on a minimum number of cars per class.
For Time Trial competitors, first place can earn up to $500, with payouts extending to third place with $200.
In addition, Mazda Motorsports public relations ace Dean Case will be on site to help get the word out about Mazda racers at the NASA Championships. He will also be hosting a luncheon for Mazda racers at each event.
The Western States Championships at Thunderhill will use the 3.0-mile circuit. Thursday, Oct. 5, will be an optional test and tune, with qualifying and qualifying races on Friday. Qualifying races continue on Saturday, and the championship races on Sunday will be gridded by points from the qualifying races. Time Trial competitors will have optional testing on Thursday, a warm-up on Friday and competition sessions on Saturday and Sunday. The Eastern States event at Sebring will follow a similar schedule beginning Thursday, Oct. 19.
Participation requirements for racers to enter the NASA Championships are five points-paying races, or competing in at least three weekends. Up to two Time Trial points days can count toward the five races, and enduros count as two races. Time Trial participants must have four Time Trial points days.
