Some friends and I are in the midst of a NC build for AER. It looks like the PWC TC cars were allowed to switch to the RX8 ABS pump and controller. What benefit came with that and is it plug and play or is there other work to do?

Thanks!

after some quick searching here:

NC mazda miatas have "Ice Mode" in their ABS controller.  I guess the RX8 does not.

Ice mode is a safety system which cuts off brake assist when it thinks you're driving on ice and one wheel is completely locked up for a really long time.  it happens when your lift a wheel during cornering on a track with sticky tires and stiff bars.  You can also just pull the ABS fuse and disable it all together when you race then plug it in on the street.

if you want ABS when your racing, then swapping to the RX8 setup could be safer so you don't loose brake assist after a long sweeper.

I had this happen in my t4, When it does.. in short you are screwed.. I had no brakes and right into the tire wall.   The cars need ABS, they are a full second a lap slower with no abs. I pulled fuse after that deal as it scared the @#$% out of me.  If that is an option, I suggest doing it

Jim-I'm assuming the braking issue you're talking about was your off at Grattan.  Had you locked the brakes in the corner before your issue, or did something else happen to cause this "ice mode"?

Swapping the ABS controller and pump might change how the ABS is applied, but I wonder how it can actually hurt the car and make it slower.  Might it change the brake balance some how? I think the brake bias is built into the master cylinder no?
