I think Saul still does rebuilds. If you remove the "antlers" you can ship in a fairly small box. Nobody does them better.

I would have to guess the Torsen 1 units and parts are no longer available. Nothing shown on the Mazda website. Torsen 2 can be purchased but it doesn't look like the parts for the T2 are available from Mazda...certainly not listed?

I don't know how much Saul is getting for a rebuild and I am sure a case can be made for his work being better than new but for a brand new Torsion unit priced at  $575 from Mazda, it might not be worth the time and effort to rebuild.

Much of what a “rebuild” costs is labor for disassembly, cleanup and correct setup, and if bearings etc. need replacement then labor for that. Buying just the new torsen LS gear set doesn’t negate those costs, you aren’t getting a complete diff at that price.

Rich...are we looking at the same differential part #? 27-200 is $950 for a T2 and $850 for a T1(I was wrong this wasn't in the system...but would be curious if it is actually available?). Then it looks like you would have to buy new side bearings as well?

In the T2 video above that Saul made it would seam there are 2 clutch discs and 2 washers that may wear and actually affect the lock up ability of the unit...are these parts actually available to purchase?

Picking up a junkyard unit is more often than not the easiest solution!

None of the Torsen internals are available commercially, in my experience, and according to the claims made by what is left of the technical JTEKT (nee "Torsen") personnel in Rochester.  Thus, we are relegated to "OEM equivalent" in terms of putting parts into the units.  Torsen/JTEKT claims that the tooling is long gone and they have no knowledge of Torsens still being built, whether in Japan or otherwise.  With patents expired, maybe Scandinavia or Canada has tooled up copycat Torsens using all of that oil money they sit on top of.

The new T-2 Torsens I see from Mazda appear to be New Old Stock, virtually identical to original T-2s, but not quite the same - thus why I made the videos in hopes of heading off weenie protests at the pass.  The nature of the SM and boneyard core population is that we still see many more 99-00 units than 01-05 units.

The last time I bought one it was close to 900.00 if the price came down I would agree but you have to buy bearings too.

Nothing wrong with (and plenty good about) good used bearings, but you need a good tool to remove them safely. The 1.8 bearings (and seals) are "generic" and readily available in name brands cheaper than what Mazda sells them for.  The 1.6 bearings (and seals) are essentially a Mazda-proprietary part number that are *almost* unavailable from anyone other than Mazda - it appears they are used as motorcycle/scooter headset bearings in some applications.

Thanks noted -- no parts available for rebuild

That must have been it, Diet Mountain Dew, I saw a guy sitting on a roll cage of a Spec Miata obviously without the roof riding around the paddock at Road America a bunch of years ago at the Sprints or Runoffs.

Sorry for being unavailable, however Mazda put out a article spot lighting a list of non competition parts that they were reducing prices on. Please go to the Mazdaspeed web site and search on previous articles.  These are "Stock Parts" not Competition parts.

To see the reduced parts you need to enter the part number into your racer account shopping kart where it then shows up with the reduced pricing.  For the Diff the LS diff listed is MM03-27-200 and in parts listing it still shows pricing of $952 however when looking in the shopping cart it comes up as $575.00 There was a list of other parts that also were reduced in price and I assume you have to put the part number into your account shopping cart to see the price.  Currently, the diff is shown as on back order at this $575 price as I am assuming there are others interested in this part at this price as well.

They also have reduced pricing on some of the transmission gears needed to repair the broken 3rd gears listed in their Stock Parts reduced pricing list.
