On the back of a 1.6 head there is a housing that includes the water temp sensor for the ECU. Where that housing mounts, there is a spot in the head casting for another sensor that has a single wire connection. I cannot find what sensor goes in this hole. I have looked in the FSM and online at MazdaMotorsports.

Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.

FWIW, the sensor is called a heat gauge unit. It is found in the electronics section of the MazdaMotorsports site under engine switches.
