Can anyone elaborate on what this is being spent on?
After Headgate, the cars were being torn down almost every Majors/Supertour weekend and there was no fee. Now there is a fee and I don't recall seeing nearly as much invasive tech. Not that I want the cars in boxes every weekend, but what's going on with tech these days.

The budget is to bring the compliance team around to these races. I 'believe' heads were pulled at Sebring,California and the Sprints last year.. IMO that's enough.
You ( any one) can send Rick Harris a list of things you would like to have checked. They are good about listening and checking stuff.

Thanks Jim, I was just curious as I had not seen much tech at the races I went to over the last two years. Just wanted to make sure this wasn't a waste of the classes' money as had been perceived in the past with the prior compliance fee.

If you are running non-Super Tour or Majors events and they are collecting a fee for SM compliance, they should not be doing so. Speak with the Race Chair of those events regarding their supplementals.
The compliance fee, as it is worded in the GCR for SM, is only to be collected for ST and/or Majors events.

I would hope that we could ask for some kind of an accounting of the money at some point. checks and balances are always a good idea. It would be nice if some of the money went for some equipment like a bore scope. So much can be done with a bore scope that does not require a tear down. Flywheel, trans and diff REM. for example. Granted not a good as splitting the case but it would be so easy to do and no effort to do it.

We can ask for an accounting of the money and report back. Not sure if we will get an answer, but we can certainly try.
I can tell you that we did this quite a few years ago and there were multiple Whistlers that were purchased as well as the travel expenses that Jim mentioned.
I will let you know.

Years ago.... they could not come anywhere near close to accounting for the funds they collected vs the funds they spent and when presented with this fact at the National Convention they did everything they could do to not answer the question....

I just looked it up and there were 779 SM entries at ST and non ST Majors in 2018. That means that a total of $15,580 was collected. This is not a big number when you start totaling travel for compliance. Just the compliance at ST would eat this figure up quickly.
If I recall correctly, the original SM compliance fee was for all races and was $10. So, that figure would have increased by 3 to 4 times and account for the funds to purchase whistlers, etc. For example, in 2010, there were 3543 regional SM entries. That would have generated $35,430 at $10 per car plus the 1253 National entries that year for another $12,530 or a total of right at $48,000.
I would think the figure will a bit higher this year but no one is going to be able to take early retirement on the compliance fund!
