Kickoff of Battery Tender® Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich in Austin to be shown at MazdaMotorsports.com

IRVINE, Ca. (March 11, 2019) – Continuing to bring the wheel-to-wheel action of the Battery Tender® Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich directly to its fans, Mazda Motorsports announced today that it will stream the season-opening weekend from Circuit of The Americas.

The pair of races from Austin, Texas will be shown live at MazdaMotorsports.com – Mazda’s online hub for information for the thousands of Mazda autocrossers, road racers, and fans. The races will afterwards be posted to the Mazda USA YouTube channel.

The 2019 Global MX-5 Cup season opener will also be the first race of the new Global MX-5 Cup car which features the higher-revving, 181-horsepower SKYACTIV-G engines found in the 2019 Mazda Miata MX-5. The 2018 Global MX-5 Cup season opener at Circuit of The Americas saw Bryan Ortiz claim the first race before rookie Selin Rollan narrowly beat him to win the second race.

“I hear all the time from spectators, competitors, and our fellow Mazda racers that the Battery Tender® Global MX-5 Cup is some of the most exciting racing that you can see in North America,” said John Doonan, Director, Mazda Motorsports. “Those racers not only benefit from the support of all of our series partners, but also from the support of the executive staff at Mazda North American Operations. I’m confident that our racers will put on a show that will be enjoyed not only by the spectators at the track, but by fans watching online around the world.”

The first race of the Global MX-5 Cup season opener from Circuit of The Americas will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 3:30 PM ET with the second on Sunday, March 24 at 9:05 AM ET.

Great race but with drama.

Carter takes the lead with contact, has to give the spot back.

Race 1 was a nail biter to the very end - couldn't watch Race 2 and anxiously waiting to see the 2nd Race Video

Nice to see my Rossini team mates, Selin Rollan, Michael Carter and Robert Noaker feature so well.

I'm sure this is not the PC post.... BUt IMO they ruined this series with the different classes and all the crazy expenses of upgrading.  I wasn't such a big fan before hand. But now, you have about 10 cars per class with three guys or so in each class that can win. :(   Would be nice to see Dean, Sparks and few others were in upgraded cars as well. Really should only be one level car. There are not enough competitors or cars for two classes IMO

I also don't like the class split, plus it was made worse by the tv crew completely ignoring the ND1 race.

I wish they would just stream this on YouTube so I can watch it on my TV. I'm not sure why you would stream something like this to your own player in this day and age, but at least I can enjoy it after the fact. The racing was good, I wish I could afford to do a race in this series lol.

You mean like this:

:)

TV crews always ignore anything behind the leaders.  F1 is boring AF half the time b/c they are just following P1-P3...

I agree racing and talent at the front is good.. But no better racing then the front of HST Sm races for far less money.

Well...whether its 1 or 2 classes...10 to 20 cars per class is about average all throughout racing. And in all those groups there is always maybe about 3-6 competitors that can win. Mazda gave the public what they have been screaming for...a great little platform with just a little more snap. Was it good for the racing(which of course is not the main goal)? Maybe not considering they were only 3 years into the ND but I think in the end 2 classes made more sense than 1. 30+ cars is a good turnout. Maybe they consider split starts down the road?

I look forward to the season! Selin was pretty dominant in Texas...he has as good a shot as any at winning this thing! But I dont see a whole lot of walk away races down the road! There were 7-8 cars in the 2nd group train...a lot of talent! Carter had the speed...just has to figure out how to keep the car under him for 40+ minutes...which I think Selin has now figured out!

I feel bad for the kid who got caught up in both races in the first lap crashes...Alex Bachoura...not sure but i think it was 2 different cars :(

The 14 year old just turned 15 years old would be similar to Jim Drago's past nemesis (Jim's past nemesis hit a Gehl loader in the T1 sand trap at Road America). The kid drove Spec Miata and GT something. Not another BS post.

My bad...Alex Bachoura is not a kid. Still, getting collected twice before turn 5 has to suck!

The announcers were saying Noaker's car was totaled or inoperable and they bought the Long Road racing display model to get on track the next day. Selin was looking good and will be tough to beat for the championship.
