I want to remove that vertical bar that forms the triangular window, because it blocks egress with my Kirkey halo seat. But then the stock window will not completely enclose the enlarged window space.

Does anyone have a solution to closing the enlarged window space back up so rain doesn't get in during transport or sitting in the paddock?. Bent Plexiglass or something? Thanks, Jim

Jim,

I'll take a stab at it.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the plastic, 2 layered yard sign cards that people use for garage sales or realtors use for sale. (They are corrugated in the middle, and 2 layered so they have some substance to them).  Easy to cut and shape and I have used them to replace a window that broke for the same purpose. You could make the triangle and attach it to your existing driver side window with Gorilla tape.  Due to the pliability of the material, you can close the door on it to hold it in place. Mine worked well enough that I went a long time before replacing it with glass. It will keep rain out in the paddock and if you get a good fit with the door closed I think will be fine if you are transporting on an open trailer. Plexiglass might work but I remember trying that and finding that it cracks way too easy either with cutting or wear and tear. If you are driving around town you will see those cards like "investors needed", "I buy houses" and of course your favorite and not so favorite politicians wanting re-election.... since it's against most city codes to put them at intersections you know you would be helping if you nabbed one or two.

I made windows out of plexiglass, from Home Depot. Easily cut with a handheld jigsaw. Used the window clips sold by all of the SM shops to keep them up. Great for the trailer. I put grey drawer liner plastic on them so you can't see in the car.

Why? Do you block out the front and rear windshields, too?

It keeps people from messing with the car on the trailer sitting in parking lots. When I don't have the plexi windows in, I've had people with half their bodies in the car, flipping switches etc. Put on the blacked out plexi windows, they just walk right by. How does one explain human nature?

I understand putting windows in. I made lexan windows years ago, and have made quite a few sets for others in texas.

I just don't understand how backing out changes anything. Seems like your scenario is "no window" vs "blacked out window."

Clearly we are going to have to establish a bigger sample size. We need 10 cars on open trailers to be the control group. Then 10 cars to be the blacked out window group, 10 more for clear windows...

I started with clear windows. I had a guy once, near ATL, open the door, pulled out the window and sat it on the trailer so his kid could sit in the car...

Wow. Never had anyone do anything like that in 10 years. People these days...what makes someone think that's "ok"?

I only use them to keep the car dry, never really gave much thought to keeping humans out. Bugs, dirt, snakes, rodents, and barn cats...sure.
