SCCA Recently Submitted Letter #31342

I am writing to request that the club looks seriously into bringing back NOLA as a Super Tour event, or Majors at least. This was a successful event in years past, where racers from the southeast and Texas/Louisiana regions came together splitting the distance between regions.
The track and facilities are very well suited for good sized club race weekends.
Thank you,

Someone should also bring this over to the Facebook, maybe have link to a form letter or petition. If the SCCA won’t bring it back we could always set up a race independent of NASA and SCCa.

Never been there but it doesn’t strike me as fitting the advertised traits of an HST venue. Majors go anywhere, so why didn’t it get one of those?

Well according to the SCCA website,

"Venues are selected based on various attributes.  Some have decades of history with a record book featuring the biggest names in all of motorsport. Other sites are top “pro” tracks offering the best quality racing surface and amenities. And certain tracks were selected because they are the best “club” courses in the country, where challenging layouts are matched with warm hospitality and a “family feel” to the paddock area."

I guess NOLA did not check all those boxes? IMO it should for sure at least have a majors race there.

While Super Tours are largely controlled by the National Office, they still require a local region to partner on a track date.  Majors are more region controlled.  What does the local region say about all this?

Quite different wording from what was originally used to sell the concept. It’s good that they expanded their options, I was just commenting based on my memory of words like “premier”, “bucket list” etc. Bottom line, if enough people feel like you do then they should at least have it in rotation.

Update 10/11/21:

I talked to the Houston region RE today after the national office put me in touch with him. He said they are looking at some dates in early March if the track will play ball in terms of pricing and workers. The Houston region is voting on whether to add it to the schedule this week. If it does get added, it will be up to the region and the membership to build a case to the national office it should be a Majors or Super Tour event.

There is some politics in what gets considered for a Super Tour event. I do not profess to know what those details are I just know there is behind the curtain reasons behind it. We lost the Super Tour at Mid Ohio last year, not really sure why or if we get it back this year.

I have no knowledge of the Mid-Ohio situation, but 2021 has been a very bizarre year for scheduling.  Many pro events were moved off their traditional dates.  As an example, the ARRC is the first weekend in November instead of its traditional October date because Petite LeMans moved to November which was necessitated by some other event moving, etc., etc.  I'm less inclined to cry politics and more believing of the tracks prioritizing events, which has been the case for many years.
