Did I miss the announcement? I heard through the grape vine that we are getting a new Hoosier next year, but its basically the same tire compound, just the new tread design of the current R7. Is that the story? Was there a new tire contract signed?

At the Runoffs they said the SM8 was far off and there would be an interim tire using the SM7 compound with different tread design (sp) SM7+?. That's all I remember as I was tired, hungry, and had too much to drink the night before.

Talked to the Hoosier rep at the HSR Classic 24 last weekend, and his story was that the SM7 will be replaced by the SM7.5, not the 8. The 7.5 will be the same internal tire construction and tread compound as the SM7, with the R7 tread package.
If I understand it correctly, the intent here is to eliminate the two grooves, which should reduce the amount of tread movement that contributes to falloff, and should be good for an increased number of heat cycles. Introduction timing is after the new year.

That is what i was told also, just expecting an announcement to confirm it to be so, as 2020 is a month out.

also will make them trickier in the wet.
i had talked the hoosier guy at solo nats who reported that hoosier was all ready to go with the next tire, just needed the SMAC to agree. but that was a while ago. he hinted at a 195 as well.

So just to follow up, the new SM7.5 tire is the same size 205/50/15 and it has a different tread pattern (which is now the same as the R7), with the same construction and compound as the SM7.
Correct?
What are the targets set for the SM8?
