Every competitor who participates in a Major in a Runoffs class will be assessed a $20 Runoffs Appearance Fund Fee. Is there a better way to increase Runoffs attendance?

What are your thoughts?

Is this effectively a revival of the old tow fund/subsidy? If so then in broad strokes pending details it seems reasonable.
Or better yet, make it 40 and use the other 20 to subsidize struggling regional events. :)

Reduce the entry fee for Runoffs competitors beyond a certain distance.  Easier to administer, involves fewer people but of course that takes the money out of the wrong pocket.

"Since the elimination of the tow fund, we have seen a smaller percentage of top points finishers compete at the Runoffs."

Here's a question for grins. Do we know of any top points finishers within Spec Miata who skipped the Runoffs specifically because of no tow fund?

I bet it would help the West Coast contingent to show up.  Imagine towing from Cali to VIR on your own dime.

There were a bunch of us that towed from Atlanta to Sonoma on our own dimes!

Most of the X factor contingent towed to Sonoma on their dime as well. It is time for the west coast guys to pony up and come race with us. A few exceptions exist as I have seen Stephen powers,Paul Perkins and a few other west coast racers go where ever the racing is

Haven't actually asked them but it might have made the difference for Tristan Littlehale and Justin Casey if there had been been a tow fund.

I know it is something we always strived to earn/achieve when it was available.  This year I personally made the round trip tow with Steve's car from Phoenix to VIR  (4600 miles round trip) twice for a practice and the Runoffs so I am hoping to qualify for the appearance money as Road America is 3900 miles round trip and we will probably be doing it twice.

Rich Powers.
