If there were flames in that car, you’d be dead for sure.  Sobering.  
I’ve tried a few times to get out of my 99 car window and made it as I’m a small guy.  But if I had to do it in a panic, I’m not convinced I had enough muscle memory to get it done fast enough.

 

Many years ago when I was an engineer in training at an oil refinery, we did smoke evac training.  Terrifying to try to find your way out of a smoke filled building with full gear on, but no visibility.  New found expect for firefighters.

 

I’ve got a new car coming and this video has encouraged me to committing to practice exits with my gear on.  What else am I gonna do for the next 2 months anyway.

Removing the vent window should be very helpful for this situation.  

 

Ducting may be added to provide fresh air to the driver compartment. This ducting shall be located in the driver and/ or passenger vent window area by means of a transparent/ alternate vent window material and duct with no modifications to the bodywork.
To improve driver exit through the window area, the driver vent window and vent window supporting frame may be removed as an assembly. If removed, ducting may be in the passenger side vent window only.

Yep.  Remove the vent window on driver side.  Also move the door mirrors forward 6" for better visibility.

I think they increased the mirror distance but I’m too lazy to look up the exact number. 10 maybe? 10” is usually enough...

Now that you mention it, I think they did.  I also forget the new number but 6" is actually a good distance and works well for me.

Sitting all the way back we found it obstructed by the window net, so we’d slide that back a bit and get scolded on the grid. Silly people, THINK for a minute what it’s actually for then look at where my head & shoulders are and how many breaks in my arm would be required to compromise my hands through the window while strapped in. I pointed that out a few times then we made a preemptive move, so to speak.
