I sent an email to the SCCA, but got a less than encouraging reply. My personal feeling is that after years of participation being the only requirement for Runoffs qualification, this is NOT the year to change that. Many of us mid-pack guys have to pick our races accordingly to get the necessary points. Those of us in the Northeast usually start a bit later, as well. I had 3 NE Majors canceled where I feel I had a good opportunity to accumulate sufficient points. Going forward, we don't know if races/Majors get canceled due to regional issues with Coronavirus hot spots. Right now, I'd like to take advantage of any race I might actually have the opportunity to attend, and not have to worry about trying to pick the ones where I may be able to get points. I'd love to come out to the June Sprints (annually the weekend before Watkins Glen...down the road from me), but I won't score points at Road America. I think we need to drop the (meaningless) point requirement.
In a conference call with Club officials and NEDiv stewards a couple of weeks ago, it was acknowledged the the Runoff criteria will be changed but that it was too early to make any definitive statement. Since there will be no races here in NEDiv through at least the end of May, it was anticipated that no decision would be made until late June. It was stated the the criteria would be reduced to compensate for the cancelled events but, if at all possible, would include some Major and/or regional participation. There was no mention of the number/type of events or the inclusion of points.
Stay tuned

C'mon Domm. I'll be at RA (not planning but a point scored would be awesome) and was planning for WGI.

Right, I'll be there too, socially distancing from the fast guys. Sadly, Watkins Glen has been canceled. As more of these races drop, there's less chance to score points. SCCA should go back to the previous participation requirement. The Runoffs are at a 4 mile track. Let everyone who can make it out of quarantine come play in the sand.
