Sorry, I’ll check the in-box, there is a ridiculously low limit on messages here.

So far mine have always been used with Bluetooth, not to helmets with comms. On that I know only that a number of people on the Facebook group have attempted the same thing, some more successfully than others but you have the right idea. I think some had an issue getting sufficient gain out of the Garmin but the physical volume buttons are easily overlooked so it might have been as simple as that.

I spoke with the Speedcomm rep at the track, he could have made a cable for $100 but I wasn't ready to plunk down that kind of $$ until I did my own research.  He also stated they were making a bluetooth 'dongle' with volume control, as he stated, like you, low volume issues.  I did find a splitter on Amazon and purchased it prior to the race but I purchased stereo so it only came out of one speaker, so I know I am on the right track.  I'll keep everyone updated.

Quite a few people are using a separate generic Bluetooth transceiver, such as TaoTronics, to connect into existing helmet sound, sone with a Y connection and some just instead of their radio system. There are at least a couple connector styles used for radio systems so you need to determine what combination gets you there.

Unfortunately I blew a head gasket on Friday's practice and did not get to use it further.

Uhmmm...you mean you overheated the motor and destroyed the head :(

We don't blow head gaskets....unfortunately

Ironically, I was just looking at this a few minutes ago, but decided the addition of Bluetooth into the system might not be the best idea (added complexity/sound quality).  I think I'll stick with wired for now.

I was gifted a Radium handset that is compatible with Motorola and also have the helmet wired and a PTT button.  If I am doing this correctly, at this point I still need the pigtail that goes into the radio and the wiring harness for the car, yes?  I am pretty sure I need a NASCAR harness (3-pin).  Steve - do you sell these items?

OUCH! - I was hoping not to hear this wonderful information.  It may be my own dumb fault.  I was checking fluids and recall the radiator cap going back on, it wasn't a smooth turn and lock into place.  I may only have had it on the initial twist and not the full push down twist and lock.

FYI, Garmin has a $100 rebate if purchased by March 31, 2021. (I've been at this for 10+ years, maybe Garmin can teach an old dog some new tricks...)

I've watched some videos of the Catalyst and am confused by an aspect.  When it tells you to brake "30 feet later", later than what?  My last lap?  what I just did on this lap?  It seems that if it is telling me brake 30 feet later, and I don't get to do that for another whole lap, I'll probably forget and do the same mistake again.  So, want to understand how it actually works.

The phrase should start with something like “Next corner...” so it’s not a matter of remembering next lap but it is based on the average of prior laps and your prior best (for that segment). It relies very heavily on you being somewhat inconsistent so it can “learn” that something you did once or twice was better than most, then urges you to do the “best” way more often and hopefully end up doing incrementally better, and so on. The one big but necessary limitation of the concept is that it doesn’t assume anything about the limits of your car in any particular section of the track. If you are hideously slow in one section it doesn’t assume you can brake or corner as hard as you do somewhere else.

It doesn’t directly answer the question but the list of original coaching prompts and some other information here:

As much as I loathe Facebook if you have user experience questions the best place to ask might be the FB group.

How are you guys mounting it so that 1) it's easily visible and 2) doesn't fly off.  I saw some of the mounting options on the facebook page, but curious what SM drivers are doing.

I have mine mounted with a ram mount along with the extra plastic clip that someone is selling on the FB page.  The 1" ball version of the ram works well with the arms that come with the unit.

https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have it on the passenger side down bar.  There's really not enough real-time in car information that would make me want to move it anywhere else as about the only thing it gives you is +/- from best.

I already get that from the AiM.  So, the coach part is what I'm interested in.

Voice coaching is definitely their differentiator. However, the “optimal lap” is different than others in that it pulls from across sessions and looks at overlapping segments to try and weed out combinations that cannot be strung together in a single lap. The question I still haven’t had answered definitively is whether the delta is looking purely as best full lap (which would be terrible IMO except during qualifying) or comparing to optimal. Early testing by me on a faux track showed it is comparing only to fastest full, so I made a case for changes. That was met with silence but it’s early days and there has been a steady stream of updates. Today they posted video of a lap with three slightly different versions running simultaneously, which was interesting and encouraging. Of course what drew comments was the additional overlays and whether they would be exported with the video. After all, what’s the point of even being out there if you can’t show it off online? :)

Delta timer mode change just seems to let you set your baseline as either optimal lap or best session lap when comparing in the video review mode once you've done the overlay- which by the way seems to take about 20 minutes for one session worth of data.

Well that would be a disappointment, it need the option to use optimal as the delta reference while on track.

Well, headed to the SARRC regional at VIR with it.  Managed to get a roll cage mount for it.  But mounted it through one of the bug eye vents onto the dash support bar.  Never driven VIR - so will be an interesting experience.

Anyone have a good setup that allows to hear your radio and the catalyst?  Y splitters have all these warnings on them that you can't have two audio sources coming into them.
