I used the extensions from pegasus to push it even further to the windshield.

See the very bottom of the post.

Just drove it at the track on Saturday. Works great!

+1 for the Allview. +1 for having issues with the aftermarket brackets interfering with the hard top. I ended up using the stock brackets and added these. Yeah a bit pricey, but I figure it supports fellow Miata racers so it's all good. It gets you great placement, the only issue is that the stock brackets are bit flimsy so there is some mirror shake, but you don't really notice it on track.

Edit: Found a pic of it installed:

What size allview mirror do you suggest.  14 or 17"

Tried a wide view mirror - hated it. When back to the stock mirror. I look forward most of the time.

I run the allview mirror as well in B-Spec.  We have to use the mirrors alot due to mixed classes and faster cars.

14" Allview, on 3" extenstions to put it further away from my face, slightly offset from center so as to not encumber forward view, see offset below.

Once in place set in-car video camera to right height to get full action view in the rear view mirror

danny-steyn-spec-miata-build-v3-opm-auto

Helmet hook here obscures view of slotted extensions that allow you to adjust the angle of the mirror when offset from center - Left hand extension bracket goes horizontally forward, right hand extension is angled slightly downward (due to hard top interference, but the slots allow easy leveling and adjusting

Different Strokes for Different Folks

My 17 inch Longacre mounts to the windshield at a horizontal level where I roll my eyes slightly right to view. Mirror position does not obscure anything on track. Can view out drivers side window, rear window and passenger side window.

I have had no luck on finding a Allview Racers Mirror (ram) so I am probably going to go with a 4 or 5 panel wink. Can someone recommend the exact mirror and mounting brackets I should get? It going to be mounted to the rollbar. I have 2 mounting brackets from an old longacre setup if needed.  I have heard some winks vibrate and I would like to avoid that by getting the best mounts that work for this scenario.

Everything you need including sales outlets on their site. When I look into my winshield mounted 17" Longacre mirror my view is the same as shown on the Allview site, side windows and rear window. Presume Danny views the same.

A quick call to an Allview dealer indicated backorders to this dealer. From talking there are obviously some issues. Call Tom Fowler at OPM the builder/caretaker of Danny's car and maybe he can help you out with an Allview.

Dave, what does the Allview mirror offer that the 17 inch convex Longacre does not offer?

IMHO

The Longacre and other brands have proven to be fragile. Mostly because the bracketry is too strong. Trying to get the proper positioning of the mirror with stiff clamps ends up putting stress on the mirror. Normal race usage breaks the glass and you have 7 years bad luck.

the AllView has a thin stamped metal bracket that allows for some misallignment without stressing out the glass part. Yet it stays steady without vibration.

I don't care for the multi panel "wink" style mirrors myself.

That explains it. I had a LA 17 in in my sliver 99 for 4 years no issues then i put one in my 01 and leaned forward hitting it with my helmet and shattered it. Have had bad shit happen to me ever since.

I think the secret is to clamp it down loosely, so it has some give or it will crack,

Bench, the AllView doesn't distort the image like most convex mirrors, yet gives you a wide field of view.  I ordered mine from Hoerr (hrpworld.com), but that was in 2009.   From my notes:

AllView Race Car Mirror w/ Mounting Kit - 17 1/2" x 2 1/2" - Range 1 3/4" to 2 3/4"

I use the MiataCage extending brackets.  It is important to get it as far forward as possible and then put it at an angle (and offset to the side) so you can see behind your halo seat in our small cockpits.

Anyway, couldn't find it on hrp's site.  That's a bummer if AllView is having issues, it is a good (but pricey) product.  I did see some on Amazon, but not the racing variant.

Todd, as my member title states, different strokes for different folks. My 17 inch Longacre convex mirror attaches to the windshield (Vertical distance with eyes, far from face and offset right) using two Garmin GPS brackets with mechanical operated suction cups and two different length aluminum strips to achieve offset. No vibration, no glass breakage.

It was Hoerr that is having an issue with Allview.
