There was another pretty big crash this weekend at the NASA Laguna Seca race. Not sure of all the details, but a few drivers went to the hospital with injuries. Steve Powers was one of the drivers, not sure of the others. Wishing for a full and speedy recovery to all involved

I was not there but have been in contact with both parties transported(or family). Steve had a pretty serious injury to his Lower back which has required several surgeries.  I cant comment on his current status as I just don't know. The other driver also suffered a broken back and arm but is home and doing ok. Prayers for complete recoveries.

A case in which an initial incident ended up with cars coming back off walls and stoping on track. They created a dust cloud that blinded the cars who followed :(

I watched an in car video from one of the involved cars. Running full throttle on race line into a complete dust out and hitting a parked car 4 seconds after it crashed is the cause of injury’s my point…..
Use some common sense when you can’t see. It really sucks to have friends hurt and I hope for speedy recovery.

Chris hit the nail on the HEAD. There is minimal COMMON SENSE used in Spec Miata racing for fear of loosing an on track position.

No dust at Road America 2022 June Sprints but plenty of tire smoke (crash after T7) and X number of cars crashed at full song.

Several years ago at the June Sprints a racing friend and I put STL decals on my Spec Miata and he ran a couple qualifying laps and a couple race laps for Runoffs credit. During race, a car ahead went into the gravel at T1 never lifted and came back onto track perpendicular to track. guy driving my car turned right and drafting car hit gravel trap car at firewall. End result TWO totaled cars. Had my car been crashed it would have been the end of my car. Driver agreement pre race weekend he would buy car if he crashed it.

There are rules and need to be additional rules along with rules enforcement to eliminate this senseless damage to cars and driver body injuries.

The word SLOW DOWN in the yellow flag rule is meaningless.

The bump drafting which is against existing rules is allowed.

Four wheels off track should be a serious position penalty (black flag said car) and let the protests fly after the race.

Never miss a flag system or similar system.

Mandatory functioning camera in each car.

Just saw this thread so wanted to say I'm healing up well. I'm out of the hospital per se and in the in patient rehab facility located at the, same hospital I was transported to.

My L1 vertabrae, was burst and needed a cage replacement. After that surgery I had a, 2nd surgery to stabilize my back by fusing the cage to 2cof my Thorax vertabrae. 3rd and final surgery was for 2 screws in my left ankle.

I'm hoping to grt the go ahead to fly back to Phoenix by the end of the week. Lots of rehab ahead for me after I get back to Phoenix.

The video from my in car is on YouTube.

Thanks, for the well wishes.
