Is this rule change discussing the holes that the motor mounts plug into on the front sub frame?

9.1.7. Spec Miata (SM) SpecificationsGCR - 580
t. For purposes of making engine installation easier, it is permitted to create a vertical slot between
the top 2 factory mountingholes on the driver’s side of the subframe to match the existing slot
on the passenger side. The subframe is comprised of a topand bottom layer of sheet metal. The
only modifications permitted are to the top layer of sheet metal to match the bottom layer of sheet
metal which is already slotted. The slot may only connect the two existing holes and shall not
exceed the width (.43”) or height of the existing OEM holes. No material may be added.

I find it easier to drop the engine in without mounts attached for the freedom to rotate as needed to engage dowel pins.

Exactly! Many ways to skin a cat...but the last option to install a Miata motor(tranny in or not) is with the motor mounts on and tight...and the only reason this mod would make it easier!

Yes many ways to skin that cat. I normally put the passenger MM on tight and install the driver side once in and close. Even with the header on you can reach those 3 MM bolts through the wheel well on the back one.

This would have helped me last time as I don't change enough motors to know to do it without the MMs.  Does anyone have a picture of the mod?
