My clutch is not dis-engaging .. seems to have a real clutch when I push the pedal down but car won't go into gear. A buddy of mine says he had the same problem and a new clutch fixed it.. but that seems counter-intuitive .. EG if the clutch or pressure plate were worn it seems to me that the clutch would slip not stay engaged.

My thought were perhaps a failing slave cylinder ?

Ideas please

Sounds like a hydraulic problem, so either the clutch cylinder or the slave. If it is the slave, you will see fluid leaking at the boot. If that is dry then the problem is the clutch cylinder. Luckily, both are fairly inexpensive. The prime & bleeding is a pain, so get more fluid then you suspect you will need.

Considering the prices of each end of the clutch hydraulic system (<$120), I'd just replace both and see if it resovles.

Each end is a hose & two fasteners plus a fill & bleed.

Easy peasy, done & dusted.
