I had my sons 8th grade graduation to go to on Saturday,so I was unable to qualify. I decided to ship my car down and fly in and start from the rear. Thanks to Jim Creighton and Gwen for having my registration all set up so I could get in to the track etc and have time to do the 10 minute warm up.
My run of back luck at Atlanta seemed to be going strong when on lap three of the warm up, my trans stuck in 5th gear going down the back straight. Only my second trans ever since starting SM. I have to thank the Autotecknik guys, Jeff, Corey and Jamie Tucker. The hammered away and with about a 40 minute window before the race started, they put there stuff on hold and got me going so I could race. They had a new trans in my car and had me ready to race with time to spare. That was awesome! Thanks for the lift in the toter as well Chip!
Every one was hectic getting to the grid since we had to do the trans, the funniest thing was when I got back to my car, the fender was smashed and headlight hanging out, seem my teammate didn't realize I was parked there
Starting from the back is always fun. I lucked out, the car and new motor were awesome. The car was really fast and with years of setting up for Atlanta, the setup luckily was perfect on the first try. I never lost grip the entire race, lots were slipping and sliding. It was a lot of fun going through the field. On the last lap, I had a remote shot at Andrew in 10a/10b, very remote. I faked a big move to the inside, I hoped to get him to make a mistake in 10, but he didn't. I went to the outside until I saw Jesus, but I couldn't hold it. I ran wide which allowed Jamie and Fowler to get by. At that point I figured after that drive, I had to try. Probably one of my best drives, one small mistake into 7 the entire race. Nothing better than a fast car that is really handling.
I love racing down there with the " SE guys", there is no tougher competition and no more fun after the racing ends. If you ever get a chance and want to test your skills, the SE is where it is at IMO.
Thanks for the good times guys and thanks for the help! Best class in RACING, PERIOD!

How quickly they forget about you when you aren't racing Miatas!

Oh.....Thaaaaat Lamb! Got it. Miss you Todd. Come play with us. We'll be nice, promise!
If only you had an extra car I could borrow....but then again I'd have to beat Drago and it looks like he was flying!

As I was getting my 6 and 8 year old daughters out of bed to head to the track (Oh the humanity!!), I was wondering if it would be worth the brain damage.
I was not disappointed. From the drop of the green (or, a few seconds before the green as Drago did his best Cottrell impression from the back of the pack) the announcer would call the order at the stripe and by the time the group got to the braking zone in 10A the order was completely different!! Same story almost every lap.
Drago was putting on a driving clinic (maybe he should sit out qually at Runoffs?) slicing through the field. When Andrew protected to the inside in 10A on the last lap braking duel and Jim had a nose on him, the crowd (of 6 people) in the stands went wild. Then he slid a little wide (no pun intended) and slotted into P4, giving Fowler a podium finish to the surprise of everyone but him.
I wish I could have been out there with you guys, but at least you made it worth the trip!
