I am putting new rear pads on my 93 miata. My question is the allen set screw. How do I set it?
Is there a certain amount of turns?

Thanks
Mike

When I used to used the allen heads before disabling completely, I would typically run allen in snug and back it off 1/2 to 3/4 turn

Disabling completely is the way to go. Otherwise, know that this screw is self tightening, and should be checked after every session... a least until you learn how fast yours tightens itself.

Disabling completely would mean no more emergency brake correct?

I use the ebrake when loading my car onto the trailer. I always back the allen screws out 1.5 turns between race weekends and then let them self-adjust like they're designed to do. I also lube all the slide pins in the system at the same time.

Do I understand correctly that by removing the other e-brake components the set screw becomes a non-issue or is your disabling another process, Jim?

Thanks,

Kevin

Not sure what you mean by non issue. The set screw will continue to adjust Without the other emergency brake parts. It will self adjust to To bring the pads back in contact with the rotors With every pump of the Petal. It might only move Less than 1 degree per press, But it doesn't take long for that add up to A half of a turn.

So the set screw has to be removed, Along with its associated other parts, In order to disable it.

Sorry about the funky typing I'm using speech to text.

What your really trying to do is remove the guts form inside the piston. The little dealy bob is held in by the wire C clip.
