I am having trouble getting the cooling fan to come on in my 1990 SM. I first took the connector off the thermofan switch and tried grounding it to the engine with the ignition on and the fans came on. So I bought a new fan switch thinking thats why it wasn't coming on but its still not coming on.

I tried the diagnostic ports before replacing the fan switch and they wouldn't come on. Now when I do the diagnostic test it fires right up. I allowed it to warm up to around 200 degrees and still no fans. Any help!!

Thanks!
Justin

I don't think it comes on until 205-210!

My 90 comes on below 200*. I want to think it was 195* with AutoMeter mecahnical temp gauge (EDIT, located in the upper radiator hose). Will need to do again & make a note under hood.

It's in the archives somewhere. I remember 206, but I remember things wrong a lot.
