Just want to cover this if someone missed it.
NO ACTION REQUIRED2. #4676 (Larry Mendez) Steering Rack Shim question
Shimming of the steering rack is not permitted. The rule is correct as written.
CLUB RACING TECHNICAL BULLETIN
Spec Miata
1. #4488 (Kevin Foote) Bilstein part number change
In 9.1.8.C.4.a.1, after “B46-1488†add “ or 24-014885†and after “B46-1489â€, add “or 24-014892â€. [These changes reflect a
new Bilstein part numbering system; there is no change to the parts.]
2. #4617 (Jim Drago) Allow the Cusco limited slip
In 9.1.8.C.3.b, add the following: “Alternate MAZDASPEED #0000-02-5500 limited slip differential is permitted.†[The
previously specified differential is no longer available.]
Pretty fast "Alternate #" compared to the 99 front chin which is no longer available.

Diff is a necessity... The spoiler is so it doesn't look as much like a chick car Also, no one has sent in a letter requesting an alternate part? I don't think it would stand a chance, but we have not even gotten the letter.

I was under the assumption that the steering rack was legal to shim it down. Did I miss something. I do not have it done to my car, but I thought I heard some on the forum doing it.

Should we ask for this to be legal in SCCA too? Seems like an inexpensive way to allow people to fine tune? I tend to like rules changes that only cost me a bag of washers vs. complete subframes and suspension bits. Shimming the steering rack is all over the I.T. classes. Why not here?
Before we jump all over this suposed bump steer correction (shimming the rack) & write letters for shimming the rack or something else relative to the bump steer how about someone post their before & after measurements that shows that shimming or something else improves the bump steer. I have not found time to do before measure, improve & after measure.
If someone NASA or SCCA has these numbers please post the before & after numbers.

Maybe the guys at SCCA don't think there is any way possible that a bag of washers alone will fix much of anything anything? Besides, didn't most of the 1.6 guys agree handling was not an issue in the 1.6 car?
All kidding aside, I did the math 2-3 years ago, I don't have it any longer, nor do I feel like doing it again, but I don't think a bag of washers alone is worth the time.

When it comes to handling with our 1.6, I think it handles pretty good, I would certainly rather have 2-3 more foot lbs of torqe than a small gain in handling.
