Oil change interval on Trans and Diff?
#1

Running a trans from a 1991.
Running a Torsen diff from a 2000.
What is a good oil change interval for the Torsen diff and Trans?
Does anyone have any oil analysis (i.e. Blackstone Labs) to help justify the intervals?
I changed the oil in the diff after 3 race weekends and it still looked very fresh. Have about 5 weekends on the trans oil.
Thanks.

How do you tell if the trans and diff oil look dirty when it is still in there?
Thanks.
PS - yes I'm a newbie. This is my first season so apologies if some of you vets find this question boring.

I do trans and diff whenever they look dirty, usually about every other oil change

Stick your pinky in the hole and see what color comes out.

Yeah, I have your book.

Checking the fluids and levels is part of my pre and post-track inspections. Pull the FILL plug, do the pinky test. Checks the fluid level, and the color at the same time.
During the season, always keep (at least) one complete set (engine, trans, diff, brakes, and coolant) of replacement fluids on hand. I keep two, one in the track boxes, one in the shop. When I know a change isn't far off...I go ahead and reorder another of the needed variety---but, use the oldest set (track box, or shop). That way, I'm never without fluid, and the inventory gets rotated.
