Costs are always an issues that must be balanced.  Two sports cars series could not be sustained in the US and now we have the Tudor(great racing).  MX5 Playboy cup for sale?  So regardless, the field size is a function of money.  The NCs helped downward price pressure of NBs so we can afford to race them. NDs will do the same.  But popularity in a grassroots series is do participation, no one is paying to see a miata race.  Except me at the runoffs.   :optimist:

So Mazda's benefit is the halo statement that more Mazda's are raced any given weekend than any other mark.  That elevates the brand, especially for the Mavens (marketing term for those who are early adopters and give advice to others).  I am always praising the Miata and Mazda because of my involvement with SM and I know many do the same.  If they go after pushing the newest model and lose the crowd that participates in SM, they have lost it all.  I think it is too soon and after the runoffs to consider major changes to the series.  I would be one more reason to be unsure about the future is another coffin nail.

So NASA should buy SCCA ??

Well we hope these next few weekends until we get some rule clarification :)

Tom, you can call me Dick

I think I'm just stating the obvious. How many competitive NA's are competing at the national level? Why wouldn't Mazda want to move SM forward into this mellenium?

Let's go with Rick.

I understand the Austin Healy Sprite argument but we are nowhere near a shortage of cars or parts for the NA cars.  As for the competitiveness of the NA cars, that's easy to fix.  I can't speak much for the 1.6 as I have not more than a couple hours in one and not a very good one at that although I would love to drive a well prepared one sometime.  As for the '94-'97 we're only a small piece of aluminum with a hole in it and some lead (or not) away from more people building and running those cars.  I'd argue that those cars are the easiest to maintain and also cheap to build.  They don't have cam and crank sensors that go bad when you're on the track.  The front subframes don't crack or break.  Fewer weird electrical problems.  Easier to maintain good water temp on track.  No valve lash to set.  Fuel pumps and alternators last longer than NB.  No air flow meters to mess with like the 1.6 and the donors (or sitting race cars) are plentiful and cheap.

This to me is one of the most important things we can do to improve the class along with compression-gate and plunge-gate.

Tom

I respect your point of view but that's not moving forward. Would it not be going in reverse. I personally think Mazda wants to move forward and the NC is the answer.

I'm not sure you get it. Sure move forward is easy, change the rules, whatever. But is everyone going to go?

It's not that, it's whats best for the class.

Not sure you didn't misread the title.

J~

GOING FORWARD

With the recent black clouds(whistlegate and blendgate)  Mazda motorsports has to be a little upset. So it's time to move forward.

Since NA's aren't competitive(for whatever reason), and others are staying home and not racing for fear of being torn down. It's time to reset the rules. Bringing the NC into the class will make for a SM class GOING FORWARD. Like it or not that's whats needed to move forward and make this the best class GOING FORWARD.

The sky isn't falling just a little cloudy right now, and some folks wont accept this and move on, while others will embrace it and make it better down the road.

I believe that the uncorked NB up against the corked NC will make for great racing and no better time than now to start the process.

Flame on... Johnny D I put GOING FORWARD in caps just for you

Since I am not familiar with you.  Why don't you sign your real name, how many years and races experience you have in SM so I can weigh your opinions correctly.  I would like to know in order to understand your knowledge base.

Thanks.

Shouldnt that be "Dark * "?  Or maybe  "Super * "?

Something told me to look closely at the first post of this thread and then every post the dickster has put up. I'm sure someone knows who "Dickweed" is but it really doesnt matter to me. Here is someone who comes on anonymously but seems very sure of his opinions.

If in fact Mazda has the King seat and SCCA and NASA are simply riding bitch...I think the future may be speaking from the present!

My 2 cents may be worth nothing as usual...but I'm going to Vegas to bet on the future!

Anonymous NC propoganda is all I see. Credibility can't happen without credentials.

I predict this thread is dead.
