I've only met Jim twice, but he has "minions"? That's cool

Is that the smaller version of bunions?

Or maybe David typoed and meant Minimes?

Mike,

You had to go there and say the NA should be dead!

I can't speak of Runoffs or national races but you and I have had some epic battles at our little track.

Say it ain't so Mike, say it ain't so!

Let's make it competitive again, 25lbs and an intake certainly isn't going to make the 1.6 an overdog.

Perhaps lighter wheels might be an easy quick fix. I'm cheap but I could pony up $800 bucks for new wheels and no labor cost.

Really fun reading the BS.  Looking forward to the pendulum swing and vendors who haven't a clue coming out claiming to have 1.6 smarts.  Anybody who wants to "spend the money" or "return to a Majors" in a 1.6, give Sean a call when the time is right, or sooner if you don't want to stand in line.

I have an opinion so I must be right

Matt,

Very hard for me to accurately comment on the 1.6 parity issue as I have never wrenched one or driven one. However, I have seen some wickedly fast 1.6 cars here in socal. From a spectator position the cars look incredibly lively. From what I here about their performance, you are doing yourself a great favor by driving one now in your career. You will be a better driver for it. When you move to the MX5 car, people will know your name. When you combine setup with your natural talent for driving, you will be very difficult to beat.

My opinions.......stay above 5K RPMs and you will be fine in your 1.6 . Find a drafting partner for AAA and you will be fine in your 1.6 . Spend your money on tires for the TMC and you will be fine in your 1.6 . Drive my new 99 build I am doing this year, for the shootout and you will be fine in it for the shootout.Test in it before the shootout and help me dial it in to your PREFERRED driving style and you will be even better.

Nobody in their right mind is going to build a 1.6

Hello all,

The being of sound mind may be in question, but I've built a 1.6 from the ground up. I'll be racing in all the Nor Cal NASA events this year.

Would I have done it over again with an NB, probably, but I had a 1.6 track car and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

At this juncture, parity doesn't mean a whole lot to me as I'm still sorting out basic mechanicals and driver skill. As I progress, if the 1.6 was considered competitive, I'd absolutely put the money/time into making a car with potential. I'll be interested to see where this goes.

Welcome Andrew! You'll be fine. As time and budget allows you will get a much better sense of were you will stand! Nothing can replace seat time and paddock beer sessions...this is were fact becomes fiction and fiction becomes fact! Best advise I can give you is dont be on an island! Make friends on and off track this year!

If you pull the plates on the NB cars you will just add tons of money to the building of that car. You will have to flow test all your parts and tons of dyno time. So that's not good for the class either on trying to keep costs down.

We are already doing that! Nothing will change by pulling plates

Why would you flow test your parts when you have a RP on the car ?
Sounds like a waist of money to me !

Now if your talking about a 1.6 yes you do have to flow test your parts to find the best parts.

Not true.. diminishing returns... but not a waste. I disagree with High Chair, the plates are keeping these cars close now.. maybe all of us think we are better than the next guy, but I would love the plates to be pulled as I feel very confident :) But I do think it would not be beneficial for the class, parity or the budgets.

Thanks for clearing that up as I'm no engine expert and just thought you didn't have to because of the RP.

How much faster would lap times be without the RP ?

Sorry about that High Chair !

Lol. I've ran my 1.6 in the majors for the last two years, and have had a great time doing so. Don't care if its competitive or not, just want to race it and continue having more fun then most of the guys out there :)

Did anyone notice that a 1.6 just got second place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca at NASA Western States Championships?

Set fast lap at that.

Congrats to Mark Drennen for getting that deserved win.

None of this even matters anymore....... Since everyone knows the 1.6L is such a big over dog on the top end I hear there are several top flight no excuse 1.6's being built just for Daytona.  I heard one of the big dogs rented Daytona to due testing back to back and the 1.6L car was far and away better on the top end.  So..... Now you can expect a 1.6L to  podium at the Runoffs and then it will get 25lbs added back to it so they will all end up being slower after Daytona anyway.  If your racing a 1.6L car now be happy with what you got cause it's certainly going to change after what it does at Daytona.

I know if I had unlimited time and money I would be sending a 1.6 to Daytona. Just my option.
