This upcoming weekend is an HPDE event at Summit Point Shenandoah Circuit with Track Daze. I was considering instructing at that event, but I am on the fence. I want to race, and I want to improve my car... if I do this event, I might not have enough tire to do a race later in the year... What a dilemma!
As for the modifications, there are a LOT of items I want to do for upkeep, and a lot I want to do for modifications. I absolutely don't have the money to do that though, so I need to prioritize! I am about 4 seconds off the class leader. I doubt I'll pick that up, but I am about 1-2 seconds off my friend Brent (helped me at my school) and I want to make my car similarly prepped so I can attempt to keep up with him.
So this weekend, I think I am going to attempt the following:
Front hubs need replaced (I am guessing in the $40-$100 each range)
Torsen LSD Diff Swap. (I currently am running an open diff. I need an LSD, but this could put me back $500-$1000)
Next weekend (May 21-22) is a National event at Summit Point Raceway. They are holding 2 groups for regional racing. I will be in group 8 in the ITA class. I know not a single person in my class. That has me a little nervous. I do know there are a handful of "double dippers" doing the regional IT class as well as the national SM/SSM class (and maybe the regional SM/SSM too). So hopefully they are not the super leaders, and are just looking for extra seat time. I think I can be faster than a normal (not fully pro prepped top front running) spec miata. I guess we shall see!
The cool thing about this event, all regional classes pony up $30 to a pot. Depending on the number of cars in your class, winners get a cut of that pot! Sounds fun!
Anyway, I forgot to look at the weather, but I signed up for that National/Restricted Regional race, and can't wait (and am hoping for dry).
Next race after that would be June 11, if my wife hadn't booked a bed and breakfast for that weekend... What was she thinking!!!
