I was asked to crew for a rental at a FATT this Friday. I figured "Why Not!" So I took the day off and am planning to instruct and crew.
I won't be driving much on Friday, so I decided that I am going to put the Hoosiers I was thinking about selling onto the 2007 MX5 Grand Touring and see how it does as a track toy! I am a little excited to do that. I have had the car on the track with street tires in the past, but never gumballs!. I remember hating the suspension on the MX5, it has the Bilstein sport suspension and traction control etc... I think the stock Sport Suspension is... well... it sucks. It is VERY soft, but fine for the street... but only marginally fine. I think the traction control is a little on the invasive side, but the suspension is so bad, I think the traction control makes the drive a bit nicer (and more predictable) on track.
Saturday is a NASA event and I am driving my ITA car in TTE and instructing. I think this is likely the last TT I will participate in. I plan on prepping my car a bit more for ITA, and the next items will gather enough points to knock me into TTD which I am not happy about, but what can you do. I mainly did TT because Hoosier's contingency program was outstanding... through the roof outstanding... the best ever! So hopefully I can drive fast enough to win a tire or two, and go out on a good note.
The NASA event will be different for me because I have a friend trying out HPDE for the first time. He will be in HPDE1 in his Audi S4, and I will be his instructor. Yes, I have had MANY students, but in the past when I have had students, I could talk about how bad or good they are to other instructors... but since I am parking with him... well... he better be a good student! I will also be likely shepherding him from place to place being sure he is at class, in session, etc... I hope I don't micromanage his fun!
Anyway, thats your warning. Stay tuned for a Fri/Sat/Sun re-cap. I'll do my best to wait until I am rested and hydrated before writing anything this time!
