Man... I decided to do the 13 Hour VIR race this year.

Man... I decided to do the 13 Hour VIR race this year. The race is on October 29th.

Between September 1 when we made the decision and now, I have spent about $2000, but when it is all said and done, it will be a cool $4000. This is WAY WAY WAY WAY Late to get into this game. A 12+ hour race is a 6-12 month organizational process... ESPECIALLY for your first time.

What I have learned? You need to pick co-drivers who want to be a FULL part of the team. As in help with EVERYTHING. OR you need to be prepared to make it a second full time job of your own. You want to pick crew that want the same. They should want the job of worker. If not, if they just want to drink beers and hang out, you have the wrong people. When you are out at the track, you want to be thinking about driving, not where your crew is.

The car prep (on a Miata) should be quite simple. Fill it with fuel and mount new tires and pads and go. But I was talked into installing new tie-rod ends and ball joints, SS brake lines, Hallogen 75 wat headlights (we do have a light bar in addition to these), and much much much more.

King Rat was going to enter a second team in SSM with a friend (my team is in ITA), and we were going to share a crew, but they had to bail out due to work commitments, so we found ourselves having to coordinate that aspect of the logistics of an endurance race too.

So now... CREW... To buy rooms? not to buy rooms? To provide space in the motor home? To feed, To pay. The ethical, moral list goes on. We decided to provide all food and sleeping space in the motor home (share beds or floor space with air mattresses). And we have a great crew! I think we will finish the race... there are 3 ITA cars, 16 SM cars and a couple SSM cars. So we have people to race with.

There's more... but I have work to do... I have a race to prep for!

Sleeping?! It's only 13 hours! C'mon now, we barely sleep for the 25 and that winds up being about 36 hours straight. :)
