Looks like Tyler won practice ...
Going to be an up hill battle for most looking at the practice times.

we will find out
Looks like Yiannis and Amy Mills both had issues in STL qualifying.. Mixed fields and Sm seem to not work well together
Looks like only 3-4 cars close.. Kicera, Rookie and Rollan top three

Don't think so. Everyone that was here for the test said the track has lost a lot of grip. Frankly, I think the track has too much grip for our Hoosiers as it is...binds the car up bad. Stickers/scuffs are not the way to go.
VIR went through the same transition. We raced on it in April and some of the same folks went back two months later and were around two seconds off.

For me, this weekend heralds a great milestone in "1.6 Parity". Put a top quality driver such as Ralle Rookey in a top quality prepared car with a really great engine, and he can run similar lap times as Tyler. They have embraced all the changes allowed by the SMAC and we are now seeing strong 1.6 NA's emerge, which is a wonderful step in the right direction, IMHO.
However I still believe that his car will not be able to contend for the win. IMO, running similar lap times, and passing or contending for the pass are very different things, so it will be interesting to see what emerges in the race today.
As for my own situation, we had an issue with my car, so I am renting a VVT car from Panic. It handles really well but is a little soft in the motor department. Both 1.6's were pulling me up the hill from the toe of the boot! Thanks to Josh and Panic for renting the car to me. Great to still be able to get some fun seat time in.
On a more solemn, note, I was involved in the STL wreck in Q2 where Leland Englebardt of Flat Out was hurt and transported to hospital. According to all that have watched it, the video shows I had nowhere to go, but it is still gut wrenching to see a car 10ft in the air bouncing off the ARMCO rails in front of you. Will keep you posted on Lelands status.

Watkins Glen crew have almost finished preparing the ARMCO barrier. Several posts were broken and moved backwards. Leland is in hospital and in good spirits. Possible broken collarbone. Racing is delayed by several hours and all races will be shortened significantly.
Make no mistake, even if you are not the cause of the accident, you walk around with a heavy heart, seeing a colleague in such a violent crash. Makes you really value the life you have, and tell everyone around you how much you appreciate them. Thanks to Amy and Whit for the regular updates.

Thanks for the update. I've been there several times when friends were seriously hurt and it takes a lot out of the fun part and quickly brings you back to the reality of the dangers in our sport. No one ever starts a weekend thinking they will end up in the hospital or even worse.
Be safe and good luck to all.

This^^^^ It isn't opinion, it is fact. Lap times do not equate parity. My garagemate's sport bike and my old M3 turned the same lap times. Think they were "equal"? IMO the only thing to be taken from the endless parity debates is that any "spec" series from here on out should have one model and one model only.
On a more serious note, sorry to hear about the accident Danny and glad to hear that it sounds like everyone will be ok in the long run.

Thanks Todd
then to make matters worse I was taken out today on the straight leading to the kink, seriously destroying my renters car and the car that took me out. Watkins Glen BITES and BITES HARD.
WRT to the 1.6, Ralle started from outside pole next to Tyler, but missed a shift on the start, and Tyler, Selin and myself cleared the left lane before T1 and we ran that way through the first lap and Tyler was GONE. Ralle worked his way forward from about 6th or 7th, and one by one picked us off all the way to 2nd place but was never able to challenge Tyler who was long gone, and was not able to match Tyler's times.

I have been informed the Leland's injuries were more severe than initially diagnosed, and he has been moved to a trauma center in Pennsylvania. Will keep you posted on his status.

Lelend is in good spirits, but has 9 bone breaks & fractures, including pelvis & ribs & collarbone.
For those of us who don't know Leland he is a long time renter with Flat Out, one of the gentlest and nicest guys on the planet, and to be a contributor to his accident is really gut wrenching.
Those that know him, please reach out to him and wish him a speedy recovery. Those that don't, keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
I have watched the video a hundred times, and it still doesn't make it any easier to forgive myself. After the contact, the curb on the track sends him airborne before he makes contact with the guardrail, in fact he almost clears the guard rail, but hitting it so high, with so much speed, and with the leverage and sptingback of the ARMCO, catapults him into the air and fortunately doesn't roll on landing. It looks more like an Xbox video game than real life. One of the WILDEST RIDES I HAVE EVER SEEN
Would like to post video but won't do so without Leland permission. The first people I would send the link to is the Watkins Glen track that need to understand just what that curb can do, and had it been a car traveling faster or with a less compliant suspension, my guess is that it would have cleared the ARMCO and gone into the spectators. Something that they need to reconsider.

Wow that is terrible. I dont know Leland but wish him a speedy recovery.
I love Watkins, but it definitely a dangerous place. I fear for what the NASA champs may bring as it is a recipe for disaster. The qualifying races in the past have always been ultra aggressive and have a chaos that is all their own. That wont work well at Watkins and if that is the case this fall, it will get ugly in all classes. Hopefully all the racers use better judgement than in the past and it goes relatively incident free. The qualifying races coupled with many of the fact that most other classes really don't "race" but once a year. This inexperience could bite hard there.
