Racecar Engineering also has a bit about a possible Mazda diesel powered sports car project. Mazda has commissioned a study to see how the new SKYACTIV technology could be applied to motorsport.
At Le Mans, Mazda’s director of motorsport John Doonan stated that this included the diesel engine architecture SKYACTIV-D. “We are looking at GT as well as top level sports car applications of SKYACTIV-D,†he said as, on the track, Audi and Peugeot continued to show that you still need a diesel engine to win the 24-hours.
