Most of you who run SCCA will have likely used MotorsportReg.com at one time or another to register for an event. I founded the company back in 2003 and we have been growing and need some extra help. I asked Jim if I could post the opening here to try and recruit a web developer with serious chops from our Mazda/Spec Miata community. If you, or someone you know might be interested, please don't hesitate to drop me a line about the gig at uberdev@pukkasoft.com. Thanks!

MULTI-TALENTED DEVELOPER SUPERHERO

MotorsportReg.com is to auto racing and participant-oriented motorsport events as Eventbrite is to social events. Following substantial customer growth and looming new opportunities, we are seeking a well-rounded engineer to accelerate our product development and lead us to the next level.

We are a (very) small team that supports more than 300 car clubs, racetracks and sanctioning bodies across North America with our event management and e-commerce platform. We focus on sports cars, track days, autocross, drifting, rally and road racing. With thousands of events managed annually by our customers, our purpose is to make it easier and more fun to organize and attend events: we’re all about smashing the red tape.

Collaborating with the founder, you’ll wear many hats as you juggle everything from helping set product strategy to understanding user needs to planning, building and deploying the results. This is our first engineering hire and will have corresponding influence and accountability.

Who we are looking for
You are energized by ambitious goals. Programming is your passion. You have an entrepreneur’s work ethic and killer technical skills, including:

  • Command across multiple programming languages such as Java, Ruby, Javascript, Python, ColdFusion, etc.
  • Comprehensive computer-science fundamentals
  • Excitement about big, hairy challenges and laser-like focus for minutiae
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments
  • Love of learning and open-mindedness to new skills, technologies, methods
Here are some high-level projects in our pipeline you might work on:

  • Internationalize e-commerce system to support foreign currencies
  • Integrate new ACH system for electronic fund transfers
  • Upgrade existing UI workflows with AJAX
  • Integrate mapping API for geo-based promotions
  • Add Facebook/Twitter oAuth for sign-ins and sharing
  • Provide customer document storage on Amazon S3
  • Write financial tools that reconcile and report across four systems
  • Build tokenization system for end-user customizable email templates
  • Syndicate event listings to Upcoming, Eventful, etc.
  • Build widgets that use our API to embed in customer websites
  • Evaluate where NoSQL databases like MongoDB or CoughDB might improve existing relational systems
About our approach
  • We care as much about doing things right as doing them, period. There is a time for down and dirty but we try to minimize our technical debt.
  • We push code to production several times weekly following a release-early, release-often philosophy that always starts with a sketch or a wireframe
  • We have moderate unit test coverage today and want to work towards continuous integration
  • We are fans of Joel on Software, 37 Signals, Lean Startups and Agile development but follow none of them dogmatically
  • We leverage (and contribute to) open source software: “On the shoulders of giants we stand”
  • We have an organized process including source control, issue tracker, deployment scripts, test servers and local development environments. Standard stuff – no surprises here.
  • Everyone performs some customer service – this keeps us close to our users and our empathy level high in our pursuit of the best possible user experience
    Interested in applying?
We hope you’re the one! Let us know why you want to work with us and don’t forget to mention any technical side projects, open source contributions and personal websites or blogs.

We’re based in the San Francisco Bay Area near Infineon Raceway, but you can be located anywhere provided you’re willing to visit occasionally. Salary will be competitive for great performers.

    Send email to uberdev@pukkasoft.com.
