Its the centre-dash fascia that surrounds the stock stereo and the climate controls. If I remove it, do I have to replace with a formed aluminum surround? Can it be discarded altogether?

I am planning on getting rid of the centre console that straddles the transmission hump. I have seen pictures of SM that have this and most that do not.

I cannot recall if I have seen that the stereo surround is intact or not, and the reg's don't make it clear to me.

The most important rule is:
If the GCR does not say you can, then you can not.

What you may have seen is not an indicator of what the rule is. You must go by what is printed.

Removal of center console is specificly allowed. Stereo surround is not mentioned
