I don't know which is faster: new tires with 4/32 shave or used tires, same size and origin, but with less rubber left? What do YOU think? Any proof or circumstantial evidence to support your belief? Thanks!

Rotational mass...the less you have the faster. But at some point heat cycles and the amount of rubber(or cord!)left will be a factor(grip) that offsets weight. I think Drago recently posted liking a 1/32nd tire... basically the window RA1's performed best? Please correct if my memory is wrong.

Depends on the track. Some seem to like fresh new tires. Others like older harder tires.

The above suggests a heat cycled tire.

It likes a well worn RA1. I qualified what had been a 3/32 set from last season on cycle #20 at 1:44.6 last weekend. The LF was corded when I came off the track.

Reggie,

It is track dependent. MSRH for example wants quite a bit different tire than say, TWS.

I'm running circuit grand bayou in Louisiana, 1.8 miles, rough surface, 14 turns. My RA1s crap out in 20 minutes, with 10 more to go. I'm running other makes of cars, including a Porsche 944 2.7 with S2 heads and a Cobra Mustang with 305 ponies, in a summer series where everyone runs together in one class. So I'm looking for a tire advantage so I can run the entire 30 minutes without slowing down. We reach speeds of 110 mph or so. Any suggestions? Hoosiers, Hankooks, B.F. Goodriches? Thanks, everyone. I'm trying to use 115 h.p. to beat guys with lots more h.p. than I have, so I can only do it by staying out front in the curves so their speed can't scoot them by me on our long straight-away.
